Am I up to the challenge??

Ok. I think I am ready to take the plunge...

A couple days ago, I wrote about my clothing convictions. I am still very convicted by the time, money and energy I spend on my clothes!!
I had shared the link the other day in 'clothing convictions' about a lady who was doing a 'No New Clothing' challenge. The other day a friend sent me a link to a cool blog with another challenge. It is the 30 for 30 remix challenge. Follow this link to see more...

Again for those of you who may not actually read the link- the idea is to select 30 pieces of clothing from your own closet and mix and match them (and only them) for 30 days. This idea also intrigues me.

So here is my personal challenge with rules below...

I am NOT going to buy any new clothing items for myself or my children (haven't quite gotten husband on board about it yet) for 90 days. Or shall we say September 1st? This is hard because there will be some great deals going on in this time period, garage sales, holiday shopping,  my sons birthday too! I am going to say NOTHING, no jewelry, bags, shoes not even socks. Honestly we have enough excess that we won't really have trouble managing.

I am not going to buy any new toys, games, or gimicks for myself or my children for 90 days. With the exception of gifts for my son's birthday.

Furthermore, I am going to attempt a 45 for 45 remix challenge of my own. I choose 45 because its will give me more choices and because its halfway in my no new clothing challenge.  I am including shoes in that 45 clothing items, as well as tank tops, workout cloths, dresses, jeans, etc etc. Then I will somehow have to remove everything else from my closet and store it elsewhere for the next 45 days. I hope to gain an appreciation for what I already own and enjoy shopping in my own closet (Kendi everyday has some great things to say about this).  I may attempt a second 45 for 45 once I complete this first one, I'll let you know.

I will attempt to make or repurpose one piece of clothing for myself within this 90 day period. A friend of mine has already offered me a book on this topic. This scares me a lot, but I will try it!

Are there any rules that I should be adding to this?

I am hoping that this challenge will make me aware of how I rely on the thrill of the deal and how much  time we spend shopping, or thinking about shopping. I am hoping that the Lord will direct my time and thoughts elsewhere. I know that this will be hard, but I know we can do it. Help me be accountable. Ask me how its going. Comment on how that's the 1000th time you've seen me wear that shirt in the past month.

So.... anyone else want to join me in any way shape or form?
It's ok if your rules are different from mine. I'd love to hear about how you are challenging yourself.

Not related at all... but these are some pictures from the last few days :)

  1. I love this idea! I will have to think about what I'm willing to do and I'll let you know. Excited to see the re -vamped outfit!

  2. I'm on the other end. I don't even have 30 items to choose from. My closet would shock you at how little is in it! Maybe my challenge should be to find thrifty ways to increase my selection! It's not uncommon for us to go three or 4 months without buying clothing items. Really interesting idea though. I will definitely ask you how it's going.
