I am not a perfectionist, I barely pay attention to details.
I do not remember much from home economics classes.
I do not follow patterns.
I use old clothing and old sheets instead of buying fabric.
I do not know what I am doing.
Utube had lots of amazing videos.
There are lots of amazing ideas on the many blogs out there.
I have failed on a few projects (Saturday's dress/skirt experiment did not work out at all... but I did adapt it and wore it as a strapless top today?! no one but my kids and husband saw it!)
But today I succeeded.
It is not perfect (so not!)
But I love it.
I will wear it proudly.
Each piece of the dress tells a story to me.
The bottom is the bottom of a shirt I wore when I was pregnant with Levi but didn't want anyone to know yet.
The middle is a non-descript black t-shirt I wore after I had Owen and Levi... it was loose enough to hide a bit of baby weight.
And the top is the top of a dress my husband brought back from Hawaii for me- to suprise me for Mother's day. The dress did not work at all for me so I took it apart and used the top for this. I love the top because of his thoughtfulness, and it is pretty awesome too!
And together, they make a totally comfy, casual dress that I created!
So if I can do this... what can you do? what have you done? any tips? any hints?

Oooo... I like your dress! One thing that I love to do with skirts that are just getting a bit tight, or boring, is cut off a section of the bottom, say an inch wide, and then attach sew them to the top of the skirt (to make straps), which has now been transformed into a new tank top.
ReplyDeletegood idea Amanda, I may just have to try that...
